A Message from Chief John J. Rich

The Ledyard Police Department is a full service municipal police agency, serving our community 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.  The Town of Ledyard has recently changed the way the department is administered, after decades of service under the Connecticut State Police Resident Trooper Program.  On January 19, 2016, I took the oath of office and became Ledyard’s first Chief of Police.  I am humbled and honored by the town’s expression of confidence as Ledyard’s first chief.

In keeping with our Mission Statement, we strive to provide an exemplary level of service and protection to this community.  Our officers are committed to providing that service with integrity, honor, and vigilance.  We enjoy collaborative relationships with other law enforcement agencies in the region and the state, and we have developed partnerships with providers of social services, crisis services, and many other forms of assistance.  If you need our service, please do not hesitate to call us.  Even if your concern is not a law enforcement matter per se, we will refer you to the appropriate assistance.

Our Emergency Communications Center serves as the primary 911 answering point for the towns of Ledyard and Preston.  We rely on our citizens for assistance in solving problems that arise in the community.  If you see something you feel is suspicious or requires investigation, please notify us, even if it may seem insignificant.   We are never too busy to assist you.

Ledyard is a great place to live and work, and it is our mission to make this a safer community.  We are your police department.  Please join us in our efforts to keep Ledyard safe.

In service,

John J. Rich
