Evading Accident/Stolen Vehicle Arrest
On October 24, 2014 at 11:06 p.m. the Ledyard Police Department received the report of a one vehicle versus stone wall accident on Church Hill Road at Fanning Road. Prior to the arrival of police, it was reported that the vehicle had fled the scene with heavy damage. Officers followed a fluid trail from the scene, and were assisted by a witness who reported a suspicious vehicle with heavy damage in the parking lot of the Dunkin Donuts on Route 2 in Preston.

When a Ledyard Officer arrived, the male operator of the vehicle fled into the wooded area behind Dunkin Donuts, then across Route 2 into the woods adjacent to the Hilton Gardens Hotel. A search by Ledyard Police, Connecticut State Police, and Mashantucket Tribal Police failed to locate the subject. Based on investigation recovered at the scene, the identity of the suspect was established. The vehicle involved in the accident was determined to have been stolen from Virginia Beach, Virginia.

On October 25, 2014 the accused was arrested at a residence in Groton by the Groton Town Police Department on an outstanding arrest warrant. On November 14, 2014, the Ledyard Police Department arrested the accused at GA 10 in New London on an arrest warrant related to the accident. Myles Grillo DOB 11/7/1993 of no certain address was charged with Larceny 3rd by possession for the stolen vehicle from Virginia. He was also charged with Reckless Driving, Evading Responsibility, and Operating Without a License as a result of the accident. He remained in the custody of the Department of Corrections after his arraignment.

Evading Vehicle Versus Utility Pole Crash
On November 23, 2014 at 7:23 pm the Ledyard Police Department received the report of a one vehicle versus utility pole crash on Route 214 (Iron Streeet) between Stevens Avenue and Highview Terrace. In addition to the Ledyard Police Department, the Ledyard Fire Department, Gales Ferry Fire Department, and the Ledyard Volunteer Emergency Squad responded to the scene.

Arriving emergency responders found the vehicle involved in this crash on its roof, with damage to a utility pole and wires down in the roadway. No operator of the vehicle was located at the scene. Several hours later, Police located the operator of the vehicle at a residence in Groton. As a result, Charles McLean DOB 05/24/1988 of 26 Hynes Ave in Groton was charged with Evading Responsibility, Operating a Motor Vehicle Without Insurance, and Traveling Too Fast for Conditions. He will appear at GA 10 in New London on December 15, 2014.

As a result of this crash Route 214 remained closed until 6:45 a.m. while utility crews made repairs.
