Criminal Mischief Arrest
On Tuesday June 3, 2014 the Ledyard Police Department received the report of a criminal mischief having occurred at a residence on Church Hill Road, after the resident awoke to find that the tires had been slashed on a vehicle parked in the driveway of the home. Investigation by the Ledyard Police Department led to the discovery of the individual involved. As a result, a 16-year old juvenile from Ledyard was arrested and charged with Criminal Mischief 2nd degree. He will be appearing at juvenile court in Waterford for this charge.
Motor Vehicle Accident Arrest
On May 25, 2014 at approximately 1:01 am, the Ledyard Police Department initiated an investigation into a motor vehicle accident occurring on Route 12, at its intersection of Long Cove Road in Gales Ferry. As a result of the accident, a 2005 Acura operating southbound on Route 12 traveled from the roadway, through a utility pole, ending up submerged in a swimming pool at a Baldwin Hill Road address. The 2 children who were passengers in the vehicle, aged 2 and 4, sustained serious injury as a result of the accident.
On June 10, 2014, the Ledyard Police Department arrested the vehicle operator Marcus Harvin DOB 07/23/1988 of Brittany Farms Road , New Britain on an arrest warrant resulting from this investigation. Harvin is charged with 2 counts of Assault Second with a Motor Vehicle, 2 counts of Risk of Injury to a Minor, and Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence of Alcohol and/or Drugs. He was processed and released on a $25,000 bond for these charges. Harvin had been previously charged by the Ledyard Police Department with Reckless Endangerment 1st Degree, Reckless Driving, and Failure to Obey an Officers Signal related to this accident. He is appearing today, June 10, 2014, on the previous charges.
Burglary Arrest
On June 21, 2014 the Ledyard Police Department made an arrest based upon its investigation into a Burglary into a Gales Ferry home that occurred in May 2014. Zachary Waryck, DOB 02/23/1990 of 79 Garfield Avenue Apt #3 New London, Connecticut was taken into custody and charged with Burglary 3rd degree and Larceny 3rd degree. Waryck was held on a $75,000 bond pending his arraignment at GA 10 New London. During the commission of this burglary the home was entered and numerous items of jewelry were taken.
2-Vehicle Accident
On June 24, 2014 at 2234 hours the Ledyard Police Department received the report of a 2-vehicle accident on Route 117 (Center Groton Road) near #1929. Officers from the Ledyard Police Department, Firefighters from the Ledyard and Gales Ferry Fire Department, Ledyard Volunteer Emergency Squad, and Lawrence and Memorial Hospital Paramedics responded.
Investigation by the Ledyard Police Department found that a 2012 Honda being operated by Elizabeth Whipple DOB 10/07/1984 of 11 Elizabeth George Drive Mashantucket was traveling on Route 117 when it crossed the center line, striking a 2015 Kia operated by John Hobert of 1 Sable Dr Ledyard. The vehicle operated by Whipple had 2 children as passengers, while the vehicle operated by Hobert had 1 adult. Further investigation determined that Whipple was operating her vehicle while Under the Influence of Alcohol and had avoided using an Ignition Interlock Device which had been installed in her vehicle. As a result, Whipple was arrested and charged with Operating Under the Influence , Failure to Drive Right, Avoidance of or Tampering with Ignition Interlock Device, and Risk of Injury of a Minor. She was released on $10,000 bond with a court date of July 10, 2014.
Sexual Assault Arrest
On June 30, 2014 the Ledyard Police Department arrested William C. Friskey DOB 12/31/1977 of 14 Pattagansett CT 2 East Lyme, Connecticut on an arrest warrant culminating from an investigation into an inappropriate sexual relationship. The Ledyard Police Department initiated its investigation after being contacted by the Administration of the Ledyard Public Schools with concerns regarding a relationship between a teacher at the Ledyard High School, William Friskey, and a female student.
As a result, Friskey was charged with 2 counts of Sexual Assault in the 2nd Degree. He was released on $75,000 bond and will be arraigned at GA 10 in New London on July 14, 2014. The Ledyard Police Department was assisted by the East Lyme Police Department and Ledyard Resident State Trooper during this investigation.
