One Vehicle Crash
On March 3, 2014 at approximately 0435 hours the Ledyard Police Department received the report of a one vehicle versus utility pole crash on Washington Drive at Long Cove Road in Gales Ferry. Upon the arrival of emergency responders, it was found that the vehicle operator had fled the scene on foot.

A Connecticut State Police K9 conducted a search for the vehicle operator, ultimately finding him laying in a wooded area. He was taken into custody without incident. The operator, Eric Grubbs DOB 04/16/1991 of 39 Ash Drive, Apartment 26, was charged with Operating Under the Influence of Drugs/Alcohol, Evading Responsibility, Failure to Drive Right, Operating a Vehicle Without a License.

The Gales Ferry Fire Department also responded to the scene. Damage to the telephone pole was evaluated by CL&P.

Theft of Firearms Arrest
On March 13, 2014 at approximately 1230 hours, the Ledyard Police Department culminated a lengthy investigation into the theft of multiple firearms from a Gales Ferry residence. James C Murphy, DOB 12-23-1975 of 14 Hillcrest Ave Gales Ferry, was arrested without incident and charged with 6 counts of Stealing a Firearm.

The stolen firearms were taken from his families Gales Ferry home on multiple dates between July 2013 and February of 2104. The firearms were subsequently sold or traded throughout Southeastern Connecticut. After his arrest, Murphy was processed and held on a $160,000 bond. He will be presented at GA 10 New London on Friday March 14, 2014.

The Ledyard Police Department was assisted in this investigation by the Connecticut State Police Department, Groton City Police Department, Groton Town Police Department, New London Police Department, Norwich Police Department, Waterford Police Department, and the Westerly Rhode Island Police Department.

Investigation continues into the current location(s) of the stolen firearms.
