Narcotics Arrest
On October 1, 2013 at approximately 5:45 p.m. an Officer from the Ledyard Police Department was conducting traffic enforcement on Shewville Road in Ledyard, when a vehicle was stopped for speeding. Investigation that was conducted subsequent to the motor vehicle stop, and a search utilizing a Ledyard Police Department narcotics detection canine, led to the discovery of both Crack Cocaine and marijuana.
Due to this discovery, Austin L. Cannon DOB 05/17/1978 of 14 Jessica Lane Ledyard, Connecticut was arrested for possession of a controlled narcotic substance, possession of marijuana, possession with intent to sell, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, and unreasonable speed. He was transported to Troop E in Montville and held on a $25,000 bond with a court date of October 15, 2013.
Burglary Arrests
On October 4, 2013 the Ledyard Police Department made the following arrests related to several burglaries which have occurred in the Gales Ferry section of Town.
Larceny Arrest
On October 4, 2013 the Ledyard Police Department took the following individual into custody subsequent to a criminal investigation. Jonathan Tefft DOB 10/27/1992 of 292 Grindstone Hill Road North Stonington, Connecticut was arrested on an arrest warrant charging him with Larceny 6th degree. Tefft was taken into custody without incident and held on a $1,500 court set bond. This arrests stems from a investigation into the theft of electronics from a Gales Ferry home reported to Police on August 21, 2013. Further arrests in this case will be forthcoming.
Larceny Arrest
On October 7, 2013 at approximately 1 a.m. the Ledyard Police Department, with assistance from the Norwich Police Department, arrested an individual related to the theft of a television from a Stoddards Warf Road residence in August. After initiating an investigation into the theft, the Ledyard Police Department Detective Division secured an arrest warrant for the accused, Joshua Hall DOB 11/26/1987 of 82 Spaulding Road Plainfield,
Connecticut and charged him with Larceny 5th degree. Hall was processed and released, and will be arraigned at GA 10 in New London on October 21, 2013.
Larceny Arrest
On October 7, 2013 at approximately 2 p.m. the Ledyard Police Department arrested Zachery Warwyck DOB 02/23/1990, with a last known address of 10 Ridge Road Gales Ferry, Connecticut on an arrest warrant charging him with Larceny 6th degree. Warwyck will be arraigned at GA 10 in New London on 10/24/2013.
The charges come from an investigation into the August 21, 2013 theft from a Gales Ferry home, for which Jonathan Tefft was also arrested on October 4, 2013. No further arrests are anticipated as a result of this investigation.
Commercial Employee Larceny
On October 9, 2013 the Ledyard Police Department made an arrest related to an employee theft from the Ledyard Mobil located on Route 117 in Ledyard. Naomi L Thibault DOB 06/08/1987 was arrested on an arrest warrant charging her with Larceny 3rd degree for thefts which occurred between November 2012 and September 2013. Thibault was processed and will be presented today at GA 10 in New London.
Arrest in Forgery/Larceny Case
On October 15, 2013 the Ledyard Police Department, with the assistance of the Connecticut State Police Troop E, took an individual into custody at his Norwich residence for whom an arrest warrant was held.
Benjamin R Iliff DOB 02-13-1990 of 348 Scotland Road Norwich, Connecticut was arrested and charged with 7 counts of Forgery 3rd degree and 7 counts of Larceny 6th degree. This arrest stems from a Ledyard Police Department investigation into Illif's theft of checks from a Gales Ferry residence and his subsequent forgery of those checks at several southeastern Connecticut banks. Illif will be arraigned at GA 10 New London on October 29, 2013.
Serious Injury Motorcycle Crash
On October 27, 2013 at 0156 hours the Ledyard Police Department received the report of a motorcycle accident on Route 117 near the intersection with Thomas Road, with injury. In addition to the Ledyard Police Department, the Ledyard Fire Department, Gales Ferry Fire Department, and the Ledyard Volunteer Emergency Squad responded. The operator of the motorcycle, Andy Carpenter DOB 03/04/1982 of 82 Marsh Road Groton, Connecticut suffered serious injuries in the accident. As a result of his injuries, he was flown by the Life Star medical helicopter to Hartford Hospital.
Initial investigation into this accident found that Carpenter was traveling on Route 117 when he lost control of his motorcycle, traveling off the roadway ultimately striking a tree. The cause of this accident remains under investigation.
Vehicle Versus Utility Pole Crash
On October 31, 2013 at approximately 12:56 am the Ledyard Police Department received the report of a one vehicle versus utility pole crash on Route 214 (Stoddards Warf Road). Along with the Ledyard Police Department, the Ledyard Fire Department, Gales Ferry Fire Department, Ledyard Volunteer Emergency Squad, American Ambulance Paramedic, and Lawrence and Memorial Paramedic responded. Due to extensive damage to the vehicle, both the driver and passenger had to be extricated by firefighters.
The vehicle operator, Kyle Fox DOB 02/03/1990 of 431 Route163 lot 4 Uncasville, was transported to the Lawrence and Memorial Hospital with serious injury, and later transferred to Yale New Haven Hospital. The vehicle passenger, Andrew Hernandez DOB 07/09/1989 of 69 Flintlock Road Ledyard, CT, was transported to the Backus Hospital in Norwich.
This accident remains under investigation by the Ledyard Police Department. As a result of this accident, Route 214 was closed between Route 117 and Whalehead Road for utility pole replacement.

- These charges stem from burglaries on Parkwood Drive & Friar Tuck Drive in Gales Ferry, as well as a theft from a relatives home.
- Dylan S. Rushing DOB 10/27/1992, currently homeless, was arrested in Groton and charged with the following.
- Larceny 3rd (1 count)
- Larceny 6th (1 count)
- These charges stem from a burglary on Friar Tuck Drive in Gales Ferry and from her role in Justyn Shelines theft from a relatives home.
