Fatal 1-Vehicle Crash
On July 27, 2013 at 0224 hours the Ledyard Police Department received the report of a 1-vehicle accident in the area of 633 Lantern Hill Road in the vicinity of the Ledyard and North Stonington town line. Officers from the Ledyard Police Department and Troopers from the Connecticut State Police responded along with the Ledyard Fire Department, Gales Ferry Fire Department, North Stonington Fire Department, Center Groton Fire Department, Ledyard Volunteer Emergency Squad, North Stonington Ambulance, American Ambulance, and Lawrence and Memorial Hospital Paramedics.
Upon arrival responders located 2 individuals in the roadway needing medical assistance. A 3rd individual was found to be trapped in the front passengers seat of the vehicle which was down a steep embankment. That individual, Ryan Partridge DOB 04/06/1988 of 69 Robin Hollow Road West Greenwich, Rhode Island, was found to be deceased. The 2 other individuals, Michael Paolantonio DOB 10/14/1984 of 177 Perry Hill Road Coventry Rhode Island and David Governo DOB 10/08/1987 of 6025 Flat River Road Coventry Rhode Island, were transported to the W.W. Backus Hospital for treatment of their injuries.
Initial investigation has determined that the vehicle involved was traveling south on Lantern Hill Road when it left the travel portion of the roadway to the west, traveled down a steep embankment and overturned before coming to rest. This accident remains under investigation by the Ledyard Police Department Accident Reconstruction Team and the Connecticut State Police.
Monitor Lizard Located
On Sunday August 25, 2013 at approximately 1527 hours the Ledyard Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call from a resident of Shewville Road indicating she had what she believed to be an “alligator” in a chicken coop at her residence. Officers from the Ledyard Police Department and the Ledyard Animal Control Officer responded to the scene. On arrival, Officers found a reptile believed to be a Monitor Lizard attacking chickens. Due to the further risk to live stock, domestic animals, and human life, Ledyard Police Officers were forced to use a firearm to mitigate the threat.
For several months the Ledyard Police Department and Ledyard Animal Control Officers have been receiving consistent sightings of a Monitor Lizard at various locations on the eastern part of Ledyard.
Reptiles such as Monitor Lizards are illegal in the State of Connecticut and can be extremely dangerous. Residents are encouraged to not seek having them as pets.
