Report of Hotel Larceny leads to Prostitution Arrest
On January 4, 2013 at approximately 2:40 a.m. the Ledyard Police Department responded to the report of a larceny from within a room at the Two Trees Hotel at 240 Indiantown Road in Ledyard. Investigation by the Ledyard Police Department, with assistance from the Mashantucket Tribal Police and Foxwoods Security, determined that a male and female had agreed to engage in a sexual act in exchange for money.

A disagreement occurred which caused the female to flee the room and the male to contact hotel security. In addition,during this investigation the female party obstructed Police by providing false information. As a result of this investigation the following arrests occurred. Uniqua Newton DOB 04/13/1994 of 750 Colman Street New London, Connecticut was charged with Prostitution and Interfering with Police. She was held on $500 bond and presented at GA 10 New London. Liyun Lin DOB 07/07/1987 of Malden Ma. was charged with Patronizing a Prostitute. He was released on $500 bond and will appear at GA 10 in New London.

2-Vehicle Head-On Crash
On January 12, 2013 at approximately 0330 hours the Ledyard Police Department was notified of a 2-vehicle head-on crash on Route 12 between Anderson Drive and the Gales Ferry Fire Company. The Gales Ferry Fire Company, Ledyard Fire Department, Ledyard Volunteer Emergency Squad, Submarine Base Fire Department Ambulance, American Ambulance, Lawrence and Memorial Hospital Paramedic, and Ledyard Police Department responded.

A 2003 Jeep Wrangler, operated by Nathaniel Rosseel ( DOB 03/23/1988) of the Submarine Base in Groton, was northbound on Route 12 when it struck a vehicle traveling southbound. The southbound vehicle was a 1999 Acura operated by Alexandria Springer (DOB 05/28/1986) of 28 Concord Ct in Groton. Due to heavy damage, Springer had to be extricated from her vehicle prior to being transported to WW Backus Hospital in Norwich with multiple injuries. A passenger in her vehicle, Olga Revis (DOB 01/23/1991) of 48 Kings Highway in Gales Ferry, was transported to Lawrence and Memorial Hospital. Rosseel was also transported to the WW Backus Hospital due to his injuries.

The Ledyard Police Department Accident Reconstruction Team continues to investigate the cause of this accident. Anyone who may have witnessed, or has information related to the accident, is asked to contact Officer Eric Bushor at 860-464-6400.

Structure Fire
On January 31, 2013 at 0227 hours the Ledyard Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call indicating a structure fire in the basement at #15 Country Club Drive in Ledyard. The Ledyard Center and Gales Ferry Fire Departments responded, along with the Ledyard Police Department. Arriving units found heavy fire at the residence and assistance was requested from the US Submarine Base Fire Department FAST team, Mashantucket Tribal Fire Department, Old Mystic Fire Department, Preston City Fire Departments, who responded to the scene. The Laurel Hill Fire Department provided coverage at the Ledyard Fire Department. The Ledyard Volunteer Emergency Squad, LandM Hospital Paramedics, and American Ambulance rehab unit also responded to the scene.

At the time of this fire, 3 occupants were within the home and were able to escape. One of the individuals was transported to the L&M Hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation. 2 animals within the home were found deceased.

The cause of this fire is currently undetermined and remains under investigation by the Office of the Ledyard Fire Marshal, with assistance from the Ledyard Police Department and the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
