Larceny Arrest
On 02/07/2012 the Ledyard Police Department arrested an individual on an arrest warrant stemming from a Larceny Investigation. Benjamin Illif DOB 02-13-1990 of 5 Bittersweet Drive in Gales Ferry was arrested and charged with Larceny in the 2nd Degree for his involvement in a theft from a residence on Brewster Drive in Gales Ferry. He was released on a $5,000 non-surety bond with a court date of 02-21-2012 at GA 10 in New London.
Burglary Arrest
On December 17, 2011 the Ledyard Police Department received the report of a residential burglary having occurred at a home on Richard Road in Gales Ferry. During this burglary a large amount of tools, electronics, and household items were stolen. Investigation conducted by the Patrol and Detective Divisions of the Ledyard Police Department led to the recovery of a large number of the items stolen. As a result, Barry A Briggs DOB 12/24/1983 of 104 Summit Street in Norwich was arrested on a warrant and charged with Burglary 3rd Degree and Larceny 3rd Degree. Briggs was held on a $50,000 bond and will appear at GA 10 in New London on February 21, 2012.
Fire Investigation
On February 22, 2012 at approximately 12:30 p.m. the Ledyard Police Department received a 911 call indicating that smoke was observed in a wooded area off Sandy Hollow Road in Ledyard. The Ledyard and Gales Ferry Fire Departments responded and located two fires, which they extinguished. Investigation conducted by the Ledyard Fire Marshal and the Ledyard Police Department located two areas within the Groton Reservoir property which had fires intentionally set, resulting in minimal damage. The Ledyard Fire Marshal and the Ledyard Police Department continue to investigate the origin of these fires and urge anyone who has information to contact the Ledyard Police Department at 860-464-6400.
