Dunkin Donuts Burglary
On Thursday November 10, 2011 at approximately 11:42 p.m. the Ledyard Police Department responded to the Dunkin Donuts on Route 12 in Gales Ferry for the report of an individual attempting to gain entry into the office portion of the store. Subsequent investigation by Officers from the Ledyard Police Department and Troopers from Troop E in Montvile led to the arrest of a male at a Jewett City residence. Roland Madore DOB 04/14/1974 of Ashland Street in Jewett City was arrested and charged with Criminal Attempt to Commit Burglary in the 1st Degree, Criminal Attempt to Commit Larceny in the 1st Degree, Criminal Mischief 1st degree. He is being held on bond awaiting arraignment at GA 10 in New London.
Structure Fire Investigation
On November 14, 2011 at approximately 0406 hours, a structure was reported at 45 Harvard Terrace in the Gales Ferry Section. The Ledyard Police Department, along with firefighters from the Gales Ferry Fire Company, Ledyard Fire Company, and US Submarine Base Fire Department responded. The fire resulted in significant damage to the dwelling and no injuries.
Subsequent investigation by the Ledyard Police Department, Office of the Ledyard Fire Marshal, and the Office of the State Fire Marshal determined the fire to be accidental in nature.
Holiday Food Drive
The Ledyard Police Department, Ledyard Social Services Food Locker and Starrwood Market are teaming up to provide assistance to less than fortunate Ledyard and Gales Ferry families during this holiday season. Customers of the Starrwood market Ledyard store may purchase a $10 donation bag, which will go directly to the food locker.
On Saturday November 12, 2011 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., and Monday November 14, 2011 from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m., the Ledyard Police Department will hold "Stuff a Cruiser" events in the Starrwood parking lot. On these 2 dates people are asked to bring non-perishable food items to stuff into a Police Cruiser to assist the Food Locker.

Arrest Made in Shuttle Bus Altercation
On November 27, 2011 at approximately 1:20 a.m. the Ledyard Police Department was advised that an altercation had occurred on a shuttle bus traveling from the Foxwoods Casino to the Two Trees Hotel. As a result of this investigation, it was determined that 2 females had began a physical altercation with a 3rd unrelated female on the bus. This incident resulted in no injury to the victim. Aubrey C. Towne DOB 01/07/1989 of 75 Spring Street Shrewsbury, Massachusetts and Justine M Towne DOB 09/15/1990 of 5430 Basking Ridge Drive Fayetteville, North Carolina were both charged with Breach of Peace. Both individuals were released on $500 bond and will appear at GA 10 New London.
Drug Related Arrest
On November 29, 2011 at approximately 5:38 p.m., a Ledyard Police Officer on patrol made a motor vehicle stop on a vehicle traveling on Iron Street (Route 214) in Ledyard. Investigation by the Officer subsequent to the stop, as well as a search involving a Police K9, led to the arrest on the vehicle operator on drug related charges. Marc Nunn DOB 11/25/1990 of Coachmans Pike in Ledyard was arrested and charged with Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Sell, as well as Unreasonable Speed and Failure to Obey Stop Sign. Nunn was processed, released, and will appear at GA 10 in New London.
Motor Vehicle Accident/Roll Over
On November 30, 2011 at 7:10 a.m. the Ledyard Police Department received the report of a one vehicle roll over accident on Center Groton Road (Route 117) in Ledyard. Responding Officers found a 1992 Jeep Wrangler, operated by Dennis Darigan DOB 04/15/1963 of 38 Phoenix Drive Groton, Connecticut, rolled over a stone wall, and into the front yard of #1870 Center Groton Road. No one was injured. This accident remains under investigation by the Ledyard Police Department.
**UPDATE**
Investigation into this accident has determined that the vehicle involved in this motor vehicle accident was traveling northbound on Route 117 when the operator suddenly veered to the right, causing the vehicle to roll over into the front yard of the residence at 1870 Center Groton Road. As a result, the vehicle operator Dennis Darigan, was cited for Operating without a license and making an illegal turn.

On Saturday December 10th from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. the Ledyard Police and Ledyard Fire Departments will be holding a "Toy Drive" at the Ledyard Center School. Please come out and donate a new, unwrapped toy, which will go to the Ledyard Social Services. Currently they are most in need of toys for children 8 - 15 years of age.
