Drunk Driving Crash Leads to Arrest
On September 7, 2010, at approximately 2145 hours, the Connecticut State Police Troop E received numerous calls of a vehicle operating erraticly on I-395 and Route 2A in Montville. The vehicle passed a State Trooper on Route 2A at a high rate of speed, turning south onto Route 12. As the vehicle traveled southbound on Route 12 into Ledyard it passed a Ledyard Police cruiser at a high rate of speed. The vehicle then struck the rear of another southbound vehicle and came to rest. As a result of this crash a passenger in the second vehicle was transported to the hospital for minor injuries.

Arrest & Charges

The operator of the first vehicle, Phillip R. Denning Jr. (date of birth October 17, 1964) of 20 West Drive in Gales Ferry, was arrested by the Ledyard Police Department and charged with the following:
  • Engaging in pursuit
  • Following too closely
  • Interfering with a police officer
  • Operating a motor vehicle under the influence
  • Reckless driving
  • Reckless endangerment 1st
The operator of the second vehicle, Anthony Longo of Groton, was uninjured.

Drunk Driving Crash with Injury
On Saturday September 11, 2010, at 2137 hours, the Ledyard Police Department received the report of a head on motor vehicle accident having occurred on Pumpkin Hill Road. The Ledyard Police Department, along with the Ledyard Fire Department, Ledyard Volunteer Emergency Squad, Mystic River Ambulance, and the Old Mystic Fire Department responded.

Responders found that vehicle number 1 had struck vehicle number 2, head on, causing vehicle number 2 to roll on its side. Firefighters utilized extrication equipment to free operator number 2 from his vehicle. He was transported to the Lawrence and Memorial Hospital for his injuries. Operator number 1 was arrested at the scene for operating while under the influence and operating at an unreasonable speed.

Drunk driving crash leads to arrest
On September 14, 2010, at approximately 0106 hours, the Ledyard Police Department received multiple 911 calls reporting a vehicle had been involved in an accident on Shewville Road near the Preston town line. Responding officers found the vehicle crashed with no operator around. A track utilizing a Ledyard Police K9, as well as officers on foot, located the vehicle operator attempting to flee the accident scene a short distance away. The vehicle operator, John N. Thomas (date of birth April 24, 1984) of 349 Blackstone Avenue in Providence, was taken into custody without incident.

Charges
He was charged with:
  • Evading responsibility
  • Failure to drive right
  • Operating under the influence of alcohol
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Possession of marijuana
  • Traveling unreasonably fast

He was held and presented at GA 10 New London.

Arrest made in Craigslist scam
On September 14, 2010, the Ledyard Police Department arrested Randall L. Mason Jr. (date of birth February 17, 1982), currently incarcerated at the Bridgeport Correctional Center, for the charge of Larceny in the 5th degree.

On September 22, 2009, a Ledyard woman made a complaint to the Ledyard Police Department that she had been defrauded out of $325 in a Craigslist transaction. Investigation revealed that the accused had received the money at a Bristol Wal-Mart but failed to complete the transaction. A warrant for his arrest was then secured.

On August 4, 2010 authorities in Illinois took Mason into custody and he was extradited to Connecticut on August 18, 2010, by the Greenwich Police Department on a warrant held by that agency.

Mason was arraigned in GA 10 New London for the Ledyard Police charges.

Drunk driving crash
On September 16, 2010, at approximately 2101 hours, the Ledyard Police Department received the report of a motor vehicle accident occurring on the Indiantown Road section of Route 214 near Crocker Hill Road. When Officers arrived they located a 1996 Jeep Grand Cheroke that had crashed off the right shoulder of the roadway with the operator trying to remove the vehicle from the scene. During the course of investigation it was found that the operator had struck a DOT sign and CL&P utility pole at locations along Route 214 prior to where he was found by officers. As a result of this investigation, Seth A. Holme (date of birth January 24, 1983) of 21 Fort Hill Road 2A in Groton, was arrested and charged with operating while under the influence, evading responsibility, and reckless Driving.

Drunk Driving Crash with Injury, Risk of Injury Arrest
On Saturday September 18, 2010, at 2108 hours, the Ledyard Police Department received the report of an erratic driver on Long Cove Road entering the Gales Ferry section of Ledyard. While Officers were responding to the erratic operation report, the caller indicated that the vehicle had crashed into a tree and utility pole on Long Cove Rd. Emergency responders found that the vehicle was occupied by the operator and 2 minor children. As a result of the accident both children received minor injury and were transported to the L&M hospital for treatment. Investigation by the Ledyard Police Department resulted in the operator, Amanda J. Jenniges DOB 07/13/1980 of 48 Vinegar Hill Rd in Gales Ferry, being charged with Operating while under the influence, operating an unregistered vehicle, misuse of marker plates, failure to maintain insurance, and 2 counts of risk of injury to a minor. The accident resulted in the closure of Long Cove Rd for periods while the pole was repaired.

In addition to the Ledyard Police Department, the Gales Ferry Fire Company, Ledyard Volunteer Emergency Squad and the Lawrence and Memorial Hospital Paramedics responded.

Motor vehicle accident
On September 21, 2010, at approximately 0645 hours, the Ledyard Police Department received the report of a 1 vehicle accident on the Iron Street section of Route 214. The Ledyard Police Department, Ledyard Fire Company, and Amercian Ambulance responded. When emergency crews arrived they found that a vehicle had traveled off the roadway causing minor injury to the operator, Jocelyn Magalis (date of birth April 19, 1983) of 508 Plain Hill Road, Norwich, Connecticut. She was transported to the WW Backus Hospital for her injuries. The cause of this accident remains under investigation.

Sexual Assault Arrest
On September 28, 2010, the Ledyard Police Department Department arrested a Ledyard resident after the investigation of an alleged sexual assault of a minor. Frantz Isidor (date of birth September 7, 1978) of 9E Flintlock Road in Ledyard was arrested and charged with sexual assault 1st degree (2 counts) and risk of injury to a minor (2 counts) after a referral from the Department of Children and Families initiated a criminal investigation which led to the issuance of an arrest warrant. Isidor was held on a court set $150,000 bond and will be presented at GA 10 in New London.
